How Probus Began
Probus Clubs first began in 1965 when the Chairman of a Rotary Club, himself retired, saw the need for men who had finished with the demands of business life to find a replacement social activity.
This resulted in the birth of “Probus” an acronym for “Professional and Business”, a club where membership is open to all retired businessmen from any discipline; a club with no political, religious or charity affiliations. Membership is open to all, not just “certain people from certain professions”.
Proof of the need is that there are now about 1,500 such clubs and 100,000 members in the UK alone, with many more worldwide.
Our Club
So, if you are a retired or semi-retired businessman, who now has more time on his hands, why not take a look at: Probus ’83 Club, Guildford?
We bring together retired men such as you to meet for fellowship, social activity and to create new friends. You will find that you will be made to feel very welcome. Our meetings are always relaxed and friendly without undue formality with a simple smart casual, jacket and tie, dress code.
There is no minimum attendance level, although each month’s lunch must be paid for, unless our Lunch Secretary is notified in advance – because the venue needs to know catering numbers.
What We Do
We:
* Hold monthly luncheons with guest speakers where members can socialise.
* Meet at an exclusive venue with excellent facilities.
* Offer a choice of extramural activities including interclub golf and bowls.
* Organise visits to places of interest and entertainment.
