Probus 83 Social Activities
2026 New Year Update
Prior to National Lockdown and subsequent events we organised occasional social events. COVID changed the social map and, as elsewhere, our membership and potential for social events reduced. Since then our numbers have significantly recovered and show a healthy upward trend. As and when appropriate we will review the possibility of resuming social activities. In the meantime, here is an account of how it was and, hopefully, will resume at a later date as demand dictates:
Probus ’83 Guildford organise periodic visits for our members, wives and partners as well as other social activities. These visits and other activities are often arranged in cooperation with other local Probus clubs and we are often welcome to participate in their activities. In the past, these activities included a pub meal and skittles evening, a trip to Salisbury (Cathedral and Arundells), theatre trips and a four day trip to Paris.
During the warmer months we have golf and bowls matches, often against other Probus clubs. See Bowls and Golf

VISITS
We were the lead Probus Club in organising a visit to Fort Nelson, situated on Portsdown Hill, overlooking Portsmouth peninsula. The trip will be by coach, which departed Guildford mid-morning and returned about 5-5.30pm.
Fort Nelson is one of a chain of fortifications built to defend the vital base of Portsmouth. We had a bespoke talk and tour, with time left for both lunch and free time, during which we were able to explore the 19 acres of ramparts, outer fortifications, secret tunnels and ammunition bunkers.
